Tymphany today groups Peerless, Vifa and Scan-Speak under one industrial roof. Under its own name the brand offers the LAT flat radiators among others.
The point of the LAT is to obtain significant excursion within a reduced depth, which suits slim subwoofer cabinets and installations where depth is simply unavailable.
A flat radiator brings its own constraints: radiating area is large, but travel stays limited and off-axis behaviour degrades earlier than with a conventional cone.
The grouping of brands also explains the overlaps between ranges: some Peerless and Vifa references share the same motor under two different designations.
For a conventional cabinet, a standard cone driver of the same diameter will outperform a flat radiator for less money. The LAT earns its place only where depth is genuinely unavailable, under about ten centimetres.

In practice
A flat radiator solves one problem, which is depth, and creates another, which is placement. Because the off-axis response narrows earlier than a cone of the same area, the listening position matters more and the room helps less.
The brand consolidation also explains a recurring confusion in old forum threads: the same motor appears under a Peerless name in one post and a Vifa name in another. Compare the parameter sheets rather than the labels.
